In Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales, the opinions of a thistle, a pen, or an inkstand might matter just as much as any human point of view. Objects, plants, animals, and stories show signs of agency and struggle for self-determination and are not willingly reduced to traditional static museum objects or conforming to the author's (or curator's) narrative.
To bring Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tales’ world to life as a performative experience, the curatorial team, led by Henrik Lübker, Creative Director in charge of the redevelopment of the H.C. Andersen’s House, set about redeveloping ‘The House’. It reopened in 2021.
In this session, Henrik will share how they created a fusion of technological trickery, architectural flow and storytelling strategies. All of this was not just to create a story about Hans Christian Andersen. It is much more - it is about his fairy tales, unfolding in the here and now of the museum visit.
