This session will examine the challenges and opportunities associated with the expansion of online forms of learning for access to higher education for under-represented groups across the world. It will draw on ‘The equity crisis - higher education access and success to 2030’ report launched in 2022, which included a survey of over 300 organisations from 75 countries looking at future perspectives on equitable access to higher education across the world. The report showed that the variability in digital access, infrastructure and literacy across groups and countries presents a major issue where online higher education is concerned. It is essential that as online, virtual and AI technologies become embedded within the delivery of higher education across the world the impact on equitable access and success is central to how these changes are managed and implemented.
