Todd’s vision is to foster the growth of libraries into engines of opportunity, innovation, and discovery by promoting digital fluency and democratizing technology.
At UCLA, Todd oversees all of the information technology for the library system including all student-facing technology, the Data Science Center and the Digital Library Program. He has led innovative strategic planning efforts to bring faculty and students into the library, connecting space, collections and librarians with technology in impactful ways.
Todd builds rich, multimodal, multiuse digital collections that align with the teaching and research mission of the University. Some of his most exciting work involves collaboration on international digitization programs with content ranging from medieval to modern. He believes that the strategic use of technology is the most effective way to help libraries realize their potential and expand their usefulness.
Todd has spearheaded transformative technical approaches to cultural heritage imaging and promoted new uses of collections for text and data mining, AI and machine learning, and 3D technology. These approaches led to new uses of distinctive collections and new discoveries from ancient material.
