Over six decades The Australian Ballet has amassed one of Australia's largest and most important performing arts archives – a complete history of the national company.
The catalyst for investment in a DAM system: The Australian Ballet’s wish to effectively document and preserve the collection and ensure its rich history is accessible, discoverable, and preserved far into the future.
Challenge 1: To combine a large and eclectic asset collection (images, footage, publications and artefact resources) with an extensive and diverse wish list of expectations.
Challenge 2: To align the prime objective to preserve, protect, manage and provide access to our history with an enjoyable end user experience. To provide the functionality of an intelligent system that can also integrate content across the company's other internal platforms.
What we did:
- Assessed our vast digital, paper, video, and corporate history collections, and developed a systematic approach to identify priorities, reflecting the rapidly changing requirements of a demanding performing arts company.
- Developed a bespoke, complex taxonomy structure that will grow with us as we import more aspects of our history and create new work into the future.
- Created detailed governance documentation and training resources, encouraged staff champions, and encouraged feedback and transparency to ensure the best end user experience.
